Simon Wright
Simon Wright was born in West Yorkshire in 1974. From as early as he can remember, Simon has always been drawing and painting and it's been his sole passion all his life.
After gaining a degree as an illustrator and beginning his career in that field, Simon began to realise that he enjoyed fine art painting most of all as it didn't have the restrictions of illustrative work. Through this, he gained success painting animals and his reputation built.
Simon brings elements of illustration and fine art together in his work, enjoying the fine line between realism and abstracted compositions. With the skills to paint in many styles, Simon can create hyperrealistic animals to purely abstract and deeply textured seascapes. Currently, he's enjoying painting cityscapes in particular, with bold colours and strong textures, with a particular focus on light.
Simon's work captures the movement and fluidity of his subjects, playing with the contrast of stability and immovability in some pieces, particularly his cityscapes.
"By having a focal point like the Eiffel Tower or Westminster, I'm trying to have the viewer know instantly where they are in the world, but I don't want that to be the dominant aspect of the piece. I want the painting to speak for itself and the feeling of the city to be portrayed to the viewer."
